Notable Palm Gardens: Miami Beach Botanical Garden

Miami Beach Botanical Garden was established in 1962 on the historic Collins canal. The canal was initially designed to allow boat transfer of mangoes and avocados to the port of Miami.

The garden comprises over 2.6 acres (1+ ha.) of land that was originally a golf course. The site was devastated by hurricane Andrew in August 1992, requir-ing considerable refurbishment, and in 2011, strong community support resulted in what is to-day a noteworthy garden.
