I'm really looking forward to La Réunion - it's a gorgeously beautiful island - some indigenous palms, great palm collections and the superb Parc des Palmiers, which we shall be visiting. Add to this, great French and Creole food, and the wildly enthusiastic members of Palmeraie Union, the local palm society, and we should be in for a winner - and don't forget Madagascar, Seychelles and Mauritius are not too far away.

ITINERARY

Day 1. Sun Oct. 29. Arrival Day for BOARD MEMBERS.

Hôtel Villa Delisle, Saint-Pierre

  • Board members arrive in Réunion. Transfer to Villa Delisle, ideally located in St. Pierre, Réunion.
  • Free time to enjoy and rest at the hotel or discover the beach or the marina.
  • First meeting with CABU members from Palmeraie-Réunion. They will present the biennial program.
  • Meeting for all attendees in the hotel’s meeting room.

Day 2. Mon Oct. 30. Bélouve – Les Plaines – Grand Etang.

Hôtel Villa Delisle, Saint-Pierre

  • Breakfast at your leisure before bus departs
  • 8:30 AM: Leave the hotel by bus to La Forêt de Bélouve (approximately 2.5 hours)
  • 11:00 AM – 12:30 PM Walk around the gite (cottage/shelter) at the end of the road with some Acanthophoenix crinita in the surroundings and a breathtaking view of  Cirque de Salazie
  • 12:30 PM – 1:00 PM: Back to la Plaine des Palmistes
  • 1:00 PM – 2:15 PM: Typical creole lunch at a traditional restaurant
  • 2:15 PM – 2:30 PM: Take the bus to Grand Etang
  • 2:45 PM – 4:45 PM: Walk around the pond with Hyophorbe indica trees
  • 4:45 PM: Back to the hotel around 6.45 PM

Day 3. Tue Oct  31. Ravine des Cabris – Saint Leu.

  • Breakfast at your leisure before bus departs
  • 8:30 AM: Leave the hotel by bus to Ravine des Cabris (approximately 30 minutes)
  • 9:00 AM – 11:45 AM: Visit Thierry Riviere’s property
  • 11:45 AM – 12:30 PM: Move to Saint-Leu, route des Colimaçons
  • 12:30 PM – 1:30 PM: Lunch
  • 1:30 PM -1:45 PM: Transfer to Conservatoire Botanique de Mascarin by bus
  • 1:45 PM – 3:15 PM: Visit of Conservatoire Botanique de Mascarin
  • 3:45 PM – 5:45 PM: Max Galbois’s garden
  • 5:45 PM: Back to hotel (by the coastal road) and end the day around 6:45 PM

Day 4. Wed Nov 1. Côte Est et Sud Sauvage.

  • Breakfast at your leisure before bus departs
  • 8:30 AM: Leave the hotel by bus to Sainte-Rose
  • 8:30 AM – 11:00 AM: St Philippe with different stops during the day for sightseeing (old lava flows, etc.) and stop at Anse des Cascades
  • 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM: Anse des Cascades with Acanthophoenix rubra and Dictyosperma 
  • 12:00 PM – 2:00 PM: Lunch
  • 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM: Back to Petite-Ile and stop at Cap de l’Abri
  • 4:00 PM – 5:30 PM: Visit Cap de l’Abri Latania lontaroides 
  • 5:30 PM: Back to hotel for sunset

Day 5. Thu Nov 2. Tampon.

  • Breakfast at your leisure before bus departs
  • 8:30 AM: Leave the hotel by bus to Tampon (Approximately ¾ hours)
  • 9:15 AM – 1:30 PM: Parc des Palmiers visit + planting of a palm tree as a symbol of the biennial
  • 1:30 PM – 2:45 PM: Catered lunch in the park with the mayor and other members of the city hall and park’s employers
  • 2:45 PM – 3:45 PM: Visit the park’s nursery
  • 3:45 PM – 4:00 PM: Russel property
  • 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM: Visit with Acanthophoenix rousselii
  • 5:00 PM: Back to hotel and arrive at 6:00 PM

Day 6. Fri Nov 3. Sud Sauvage.

  • Breakfast at your leisure before bus departs
  • 8:30 AM: Leave the hotel by bus to Saint Philippe (approximately 1 hour)
  • 9:30 AM – 11:30 AM: Jardin des Parfums et des Epices’
  • 11:30 AM – 12:15 PM: Visit de la palmeraie du site
  • 12:15 PM – 1:15 PM: Lunch at  l’Auberge Paysanne chez Mme FIARDA
  • 1:15 PM – 2:15 PM: Mare Longue Forest
  • 2:15 PM – 3:00 PM: Grand Coude road
  • 3:00 PM – 5:45 PM: Lauricourt GROSSET’s forest
  • 5:45 PM: Back to hotel and arrive at 6:15 PM

Day 7. Sat Nov 4. Saint-Pierre.

  • Breakfast at your leisure before bus departs
  • 8:00 AM: Leave the hotel by bus to La Ligne des Bambous (approximately 1/2 hour)
  • 8:30 AM – 11:15 AM: Palmahoutoff at Thierry HUBERT’s property
  • 11:15 AM – 11:45 AM: Saint Pierre
  • 11:45 AM – 12:30 PM: Stop at the market and shopping
  • 12:30 PM – 1:30 PM: Lunch
  • 1:30 PM – 1:45 PM: Serge HOARAU’s property
  • 1:45 PM – 4:45 PM: Visit Serge HOARAU’s property
  • 4:45 PM – 5:45 PM: Domaine du Café Grillé
  • 5:45 PM: Back to hotel and arrive at 6:30 PM
  • 8:30 PM: Dinner at hotel with CABU

Day 8. Sun Nov 5. Tampon.

Cancellation policy and terms of payment:

All registrants will be required to pay 100% of the Total Package price at time of registration. Cancellations will result in the forfeiture of the donation and Tour fees as follows:

  • 90 to 60 days before the start of Event: 10% fees

  • 59 to days before the start of Event: 30% fees

  • Less than 45 days before the start of Event: 100% fees.

  • Your IPS donation is non-refundable.
